FAQ

  • We do not and here’s why. We are a very small client focused company that is controlled by the weather. What we have found during our ten years of servicing some of the finest lawns in Columbia, SC is that when inclement weather falls upon us, stopping our teams dead in their tracks we have to pick up when the weather clears where we left off. In situations like these we have to put our weekly customers first no questions asked. This means that if you were a bi-weekly client your service intervals could be stretched 3-4 weeks. As it stands, with bi-weekly service, a client will usually get anxious after day 10 because of excessive growth and a heavy weed population.

With a bi-weekly service agreement there are usually no weed preventative or fertilizer programs in place leading to a not so desirable turf area. On a weekly service schedule we trim 25% of your homes shrubs so that by the fourth week your entire landscape is neat and trim. We have found it next to impossible to trim the entire home or rather 50% of your homes shrubs every 14 days on a bi-weekly schedule. It simply takes to much time and we can’t spend all day at your home. You also can’t fertilize and keep the lawn healthy simply because the grass grows so much and so fast you cant cut it without stressing the mowers and the cleanup that follows is intense. Bi-weekly mowing creates considerably more work and we found that it was impossible to apply our weekly mowing rates to a bi-weekly customer. We simply had to charge more for the same service.

We aren’t for everybody and we get it. If you’re intentions are to have an amazing beautiful lawn look no further. Mean Green Lawn and Landscape is the best there is. We employ professional people who enjoy what they do. Our equipment is the best in the industry “The Best” and is cleaned and serviced daily. As a company we have invested heavily into our equipment with the intention of giving you the customer the best cut money can buy. Our trucks are treated just the same. Always clean, always orderly. We run a very tight ship on a very tight schedule and we always communicate with our clients in regards to our schedule. If we’re running behind you will know it in advance. You will never have to wonder where we are or when we’re coming and we promise to stay in some form of communication.

  • The optimal height for lawn cutting is 3-3.5 inches. Taller grass is more resistant the effects of heat and drought. Most importantly, taller grass provides shade at ground level, thus hindering the development of weeds. As a result, less chemicals are required to control weed growth.

  • You should cut your lawn every 7 days if you seek to get the most out of it. Frequent mowing is healthier for your lawn

  • Core aeration is the process of removing cylinder-shaped plugs out from your lawn, which creates small holes in the ground. These holes allow air, water, fertilizer and soil amendments to get down to root level. This practice is utilized to reduce compaction in high traffic areas as well.

  • Thatch is un-decomposed stems and roots that pile up near the soil surface. Thatch begins to build up when turf produces organic debris faster than it can be broken down. Core aeration is an important preventative maintenance practice for controlling thatch as it alleviates compaction and improves air movement in the soil. Thatch can be removed by using a dethatching machine, or more commonly, using a specialized rake.

  • You should only water your lawn in periods of drought. If your lawn needs watering, you will notice the blades fold in half in an attempt to save water and footprints will remain visible after stepping on the lawn. If your lawn shows these signs, water deeply one or two times a week to a maximum of one inch. The best time to water is in the early morning hours (between 6:00-10:00 AM), as wet grass in the hot afternoon sun will burn. Early morning water allows excess water to evaporate and prevents mildew and fungus growth.

  • Unfortunately we feel as though this topic is important enough that it needs to be talked about. Look, I’m a dog person I cannot lie. We have a Golden Retriever named Charlie and we have four cats. As much as I don’t like it I unfortunately have to pick up what Charlie is kind enough to leave behind. My neighbors would hate me if I didn’t and I sure don’t want to continuously step in it.

So lets get down to it. We are not in the business of cleaning up after your pet or pets. There is nothing more disappointing than visiting a property with several animals in the back yard that never get picked up after. We are in the business of mowing grass, trimming shrubs, and treating lawns. We are not however in the dog excrement removing business. Our crews don’t want to mow over over it, accidentally hit a fresh pile with a string trimmer only to have it splatter all over us, and we most definitely don’t want your dogs fresh poop packed into the soles of our shoes for the rest of the day. If you’re a weekly client with two dogs in the back yard you can almost guarantee that in seven days you’re going to have thirty fresh piles waiting for us when we arrive.

Cleaning up after your pet is time we don’t have and it’s time we aren’t going to make. To properly wash down a mower, including it’s tires, underneath the deck, parts of the motor as well as moving belts takes roughly one hour to ninety minutes after we finish what is already a twelve hour day.

The bottom line here is that in order for your service to stay intact and remain ongoing we are going to ask that you please clean up after your pets. If our crews have to properly clean your lawn so that it can be serviced there will be a $25.00 fee attached to your service for that particular day. If, on our next visit the problem is still visible we will not mow the infected areas. If when we show up for a third time and are still faced with the same dilemma we will immediately sever the business relationship so that both parties can begin to move in a different direction.

If this comes across to you as rude or condescending, I don’t apologize. Mean Green Lawn and Landscape was founded on the premise to provide World Class Southern Lawn Care to a very elite list of clients who share the same love of striped lawns and beautiful landscapes that we do.
